14 And the Lord spoke to Moses in the wilderness of Sinai, saying, 15 “List the sons of Levi, by fathers' houses and by clans; (A)every male from a month old and upward you shall list.” 16 So Moses listed them according to the word of the Lord, as he was commanded. 17 (B)And these were the sons of Levi by their names: Gershon and Kohath and Merari. 18 And these are the names of the sons of Gershon by their clans: (C)Libni and Shimei. 19 And the sons of Kohath by their clans: (D)Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel. 20 And the sons of Merari by their clans: (E)Mahli and Mushi. These are the clans of the Levites, by their fathers' houses.

21 To Gershon belonged the clan of the Libnites and the clan of the Shimeites; these were the clans of the Gershonites. 22 Their listing according to the number of all the males from a month old and upward was[a] 7,500. 23 (F)The clans of the Gershonites were to camp behind the tabernacle on the west,

20 Dedan traded with you in saddlecloths for riding. 21 Arabia and all the princes of (A)Kedar were your favored dealers (B)in lambs, rams, and goats; in these they did business with you. 22 The traders of (C)Sheba and (D)Raamah traded with you; they exchanged (E)for your wares (F)the best of all kinds of spices and all precious stones and gold. 23 (G)Haran, Canneh, (H)Eden, traders of Sheba, (I)Asshur, and Chilmad traded with you. 24 In your market these traded with you in choice garments, in clothes of (J)blue and (K)embroidered work, and in carpets of colored material, bound with cords and made secure. 25 (L)The ships of (M)Tarshish traveled for you with your merchandise. So you were filled and heavily laden (N)in the heart of the seas.

26 “Your rowers have brought you out
    into the high seas.
(O)The east wind has wrecked you
    in the heart of the seas.
27 Your riches, your wares, your merchandise,
    your mariners and (P)your pilots,
(Q)your caulkers, your dealers in merchandise,
    and all your men of war who are in you,
with all your crew
    that is in your midst,
sink into the heart of the seas
    (R)on the day of your fall.
28 At the sound of the cry of your pilots
    (S)the countryside shakes,
29 and down from their ships
    (T)come all who handle the oar.
The mariners and all the pilots of the sea
    stand on the land
30 (U)and shout aloud over you

(V)They cast dust on their heads
    (W)and wallow in ashes;
31 they (X)make themselves bald for you
    and put sackcloth on their waist,
and they weep over you in bitterness of soul,
    with bitter mourning.
32 In their wailing they (Y)raise a lamentation for you
    and lament over you:
(Z)‘Who is like Tyre,
    like one destroyed in the midst of the sea?
33 When your wares came from the seas,
    (AA)you satisfied many peoples;
with your abundant wealth and merchandise
    (AB)you enriched the kings of the earth.
34 Now (AC)you are wrecked by the seas,
    in the depths of the waters;
your merchandise and all your crew in your midst
    have sunk with you.
35 (AD)All the inhabitants of the coastlands
    are appalled at you,
and (AE)the hair of their kings bristles with horror;

Aleph

119 [a] Blessed are those whose (A)way is blameless,
    who (B)walk in the law of the Lord!
Blessed are those who (C)keep his (D)testimonies,
    who (E)seek him with their whole heart,
who also (F)do no wrong,
    but walk in his ways!
You have commanded your (G)precepts
    to be kept diligently.
Oh that my ways may (H)be steadfast
    in keeping your statutes!
(I)Then I shall not be put to shame,
    having my eyes fixed on all your commandments.
I will praise you with an upright heart,
    when I learn (J)your righteous rules.[b]
I will keep your statutes;
    (K)do not utterly forsake me!

Healing of a Man on the Sabbath

14 One Sabbath, (A)when he went to dine at the house of a ruler of the Pharisees, they were (B)watching him carefully. And behold, there was a man before him who had dropsy. And Jesus responded to (C)the lawyers and Pharisees, saying, (D)“Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath, or not?” But they remained silent. Then he took him and healed him and sent him away. And he said to them, (E)“Which of you, having a son[a] or an ox that has fallen into a well on a Sabbath day, will not immediately pull him out?” (F)And they could not reply to these things.

The Parable of the Wedding Feast

Now he told a parable to those who were invited, when he noticed (G)how they chose the places of honor, saying to them, “When you are invited by someone to a wedding feast, do not sit down in a place of honor, lest someone more distinguished than you be invited by him, and he who invited you both will come and say to you, ‘Give your place to this person,’ and then you will begin with shame to take the lowest place. 10 But when you are invited, go and sit in the lowest place, (H)so that when your host comes he may say to you, ‘Friend, move up higher.’ Then you will be honored in the presence of all who sit at table with you. 11 For (I)everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.”

The Parable of the Great Banquet

12 He said also to the man who had invited him, “When you give (J)a dinner or a banquet, do not invite your friends or your brothers[b] or your relatives or rich neighbors, (K)lest they also invite you in return and you be repaid. 13 But when you give a feast, (L)invite (M)the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind, 14 and you will be blessed, because they cannot repay you. For you will be repaid (N)at (O)the resurrection of the just.”

Example of Hagar and Sarah

21 Tell me, you who desire to be under the law, do you not listen to the law? 22 For it is written that Abraham had two sons, (A)one by a slave woman and (B)one by a free woman. 23 But (C)the son of the slave was born according to the flesh, while (D)the son of the free woman was born through promise. 24 Now this may be interpreted allegorically: these women are two (E)covenants. (F)One is from Mount Sinai, bearing children for slavery; she is Hagar. 25 Now Hagar is Mount Sinai in Arabia;[a] she corresponds to the present Jerusalem, for she is in slavery with her children. 26 But (G)the Jerusalem above is free, and she is our mother. 27 For it is written,

(H)“Rejoice, O barren one who does not bear;
    break forth and cry aloud, you who are not in labor!
For the children of the desolate one will be more
    than those of the one who has a husband.”

28 Now you,[b] brothers, (I)like Isaac, (J)are children of promise. 29 But just as at that time he who was born according to the flesh (K)persecuted him who was born according to the Spirit, (L)so also it is now. 30 But what does the Scripture say? (M)“Cast out the slave woman and her son, for the son of the slave woman shall not inherit with the son of the free woman.” 31 So, brothers, we are not children of the slave but (N)of the free woman.

Christ Has Set Us Free

For (O)freedom Christ has (P)set us free; (Q)stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to (R)a yoke of (S)slavery.
